Terms of Service
Draft last updated 24 August 2026
These terms cover your use of Pattern Lab, a pattern design tool operated by Rule29 ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.
1. Who can use Pattern Lab
You must be at least 16, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher. If you're using Pattern Lab for an employer or client, you confirm you're allowed to agree to these terms on their behalf.
2. Your account
- You're responsible for what happens under your login. Keep your password to yourself.
- Give us an email address you actually read — it's how we reach you about your account.
- You can close your account at any time from your account settings, and everything goes with it.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Pattern Lab to:
- Upload logos, images or marks you don't have the right to use.
- Make patterns that infringe someone else's copyright or trademark, or that are unlawful, hateful or designed to deceive.
- Resell access to Pattern Lab itself, or scrape, batch-automate or otherwise work around plan limits.
- Attack, probe or overload the service, or attempt to reach data that isn't yours.
We may suspend or remove content and accounts that breach this section. Where it's reasonable to do so we'll tell you why first.
4. Plans, limits and changes
Free and paid plans carry monthly limits on generation, exports and uploads. Your current allowance and reset date are always visible in your account menu. Paid plans renew for the period you chose until you cancel; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
We may change plan pricing or limits. If a change reduces what you get on a paid plan, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before it applies to you, and you can cancel for a pro-rata refund of the unused period.
5. Your content and your patterns
You keep ownership of everything you upload and everything you make. We take only the limited licence we need to run the service — storing your files, showing them back to you, and processing them to generate patterns. The full position is on the licence and ownership page, which forms part of these terms.
6. Ending things
You can delete your account whenever you like. We may terminate or suspend access if you materially breach these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we discontinue the service — in which case we'll give reasonable notice and a way to export your work. Patterns you already downloaded remain yours to use under the licence.
7. What we don't promise
Pattern Lab is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, that generated output will be unique, or that a file will be accepted by any particular printer, manufacturer or marketplace. Check a proof before you commit to a production run.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and (b) USD 100. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from content you upload or from your use of a pattern in breach of these terms — in particular a claim that a logo or mark you uploaded wasn't yours to use.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION — Justin to confirm], and the courts of [JURISDICTION — Justin to confirm] have exclusive jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
11. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we'll update the date at the top of this page. For changes that materially affect your rights we'll email you and show a notice in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Pattern Lab after that date means you accept the new version.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms: send us a message. Formal notices go to [JURISDICTION — Justin to confirm].
