Questions people actually ask
Can I use these patterns commercially? Can I sell products with them?
Yes, on every plan including the free one. Sell them on products, use them for clients, put them on packaging or fabric — no royalties, no credit required, no limit on how many you sell. The one exception is reselling the pattern file itself as a design asset on a stock or template marketplace. Full detail on the licence and ownership page.
What file do I need for Etsy / a printer / my website / fabric?
You don't need to know — that's what the download step is for. Tell it what you're making and it picks the format, size and quality. As a rough guide: Etsy listing images want a square PNG, a commercial printer wants the print PDF (it includes bleed), a website background wants the tileable file with the CSS snippet we hand you, and fabric wants the fabric preset at a 6-inch repeat, which is what Spoonflower and most print-on-demand mills expect.
What does "repeats perfectly" mean, and why does it matter?
The pattern is built as a square that lines up exactly with copies of itself on all four sides. Print it across a whole roll of wallpaper or a bolt of fabric and you'll never see a visible line where one copy ends and the next begins. It matters because a pattern that doesn't do this looks fine on screen and obviously wrong on the finished product — and by then it's been printed. A handful of styles are marked "Every tile unique — non-repeating" instead: those are aperiodic mosaics that never repeat at all, which looks great on a poster or a single panel but will show a join on fabric, gift wrap or a wallpaper roll.
How do I use the file once I've got it?
Most of the time you upload it somewhere. A PNG can be dragged straight into Canva, an Etsy listing, Shopify, Instagram, or the upload box on a print-on-demand site. A PDF is what you email to a commercial printer. The website file comes with two lines of CSS you can paste in or hand to whoever built your site. If you're stuck with a file and no idea what to do next, that's a completely reasonable thing to ask us — the form is below.
Can I edit it later? Can I get it in different colours?
Yes to both. Save a pattern to your account and you can reopen it, change the colours, size or arrangement, and download it again as many times as you like — recolouring doesn't cost you a new generation. If you didn't save it, the download filename tells you which style it was, so you can find it again.
What happens to an image I upload? Do you keep it?
An image you drop in is read on your own computer — the colours are pulled out in your browser and we never send the file to an AI company. It's only stored at all if you choose to save it with a project, and then it sits in private storage that only your account can open. Deleting your account deletes the files with it. The privacy policy spells this out.
What's the difference between free and paid?
Not the quality and not the rights — free output is unwatermarked and carries the same licence. Paid plans give you more: more AI generations and exports each month, batch downloads of a whole set at once, scheduled exports and saved brand kits. Your current allowance and reset date are always in your account menu, and the pricing page lists the numbers.
Will someone else end up with the same pattern as me?
Possibly — the engine is shared, so two people picking the same style and similar colours can land somewhere similar. We'd rather say that plainly than let you find out later. Use your own colours and your own parameters and you'll be somewhere nobody else is.
Do I need an account?
Not to make patterns — you can browse, describe, edit and preview without one. We ask you to sign up at the moment you download, so the file and your work stay together.
